A little bit about Dereham Runners AC
Dereham Runners AC has been in existence for over 30 years being formed in 1986 during the first running boom, the Parkrun craze which started about 2009 has certainly built on those days in the 80’s !
More recently due to the increased participation of runners, our membership for the Seniors has been growing and we are now close to 100 members.
Our seniors 18+ take part in mainly road running events from 5k to Ultra-Marathons, and not just in the UK.
We also have a very successful Junior section, which is for those aged from 9-17yrs. Our Juniors are a competitive bunch, who are often at X-Country in the winter months, and on the track during the Summer.
Importantly we cater for all runners irrespective of age, sex and ability and extend a warm welcome to all runners.
We have a well-organized structure within the club of Officers and committee, and constantly strive to provide the best possible training facilities and support for all of our members.
The club is a member of UK Athletics.
The affiliation of the club to this organization ensures that we are kept advised of all news and events concerning the running and administration of the Athletics governing bodies. Benefits of affiliation to these organizations include Insurance coverage on organized club training and a reduction of race fees due by any club member when entering an affiliated race.
Under the UKA Licensing, we provide two road races a year, the Dereham 10 miler in May, and the Dereham town 5k in August, both these events have increased their numbers by close on 50% in the last 5years, the 1o miler often being the Norfolk County 10 Mile Championship Event.
We also take part in various Relay events across Norfolk, this includes the 2-day Round Norfolk Relay held mid-September, an event for 17 runners and support crew, in fact over the past 2 years we have entered 2 teams which in itself is quite a feat as it requires around 45 people to take part, but always worthwhile!
So in a nut-shell Dereham Runners is a local Town club, Small to medium in size compared to some of the larger Norfolk based clubs, but we pride ourselves on being a club for all runners & abilities, helped along by a friendly social side! So anybody who is interested in running, and thinks a club is just for ‘Club’ runners you will be pleasantly surprised when you get in contact with us, and even more so when you turn up and just come and run with us…Hope to see you soon.
