Probably the biggest event on the local race calender took place on Sunday 6th September. This was the Run Norwich 10k road race. The event that starts outside the Theatre Royal then weaves around the city centre past the likes of Carrow Rd football stadium and the Castle along with through the Cathedral grounds along the river Wensum back to the finish line past the Forum to outside the City hall. Then a walk back to Chapelfield Gardens with your well deserved medal.
A brilliant atmosphere with 1000s of supporters and marshalls lined up all around the city cheering and encouraging everyone on around the hard going and hilly course. It was great to see so many DRAC members and families out and around the course cheering us all on.
Dereham Runners AC had 44 members representing the club in the 10k .
With so many out there on the day it was a great achievement to get to finish anywhere near the top ten of your age group but DRAC had 5 that did (using chip times as everyone started in pens) Wayne Ramsbottom (8th), Jan Totterdale (7th), Jacquie Wood (6th), Helen Scothern (7th) and Kareana Symonds who crossed the line in 2nd place in her category, and also was the fastest DRAC lady with a time of 42:19.
Jake Stagg was the first club back across the finish line with a time of 41:26 .
Just before the 10k was the Run Norwich Junior 1 mile race. A loop starting and finishing outside the Theatre Royal. Here Oscar Gilbert ran with over 600 other Juniors. A great run from him finishing in 7:15.
Well done everyone!
